Sight Loss: A Clear and Present Danger - Run by Julian Jackson 10.30am - 11.30am
Julian outlines his own journey into blindness and introduces the extraordinary world of eye research and the world class clinicians and academics fighting to prevent sight loss, treat eye disease and restore sight for patients across the UK.
Disability and Hate Crime 11.45am - 12.45pm
This talk is aimed at people who provide services as well as attendees affected by Hate crime, this talk will allow attendees to be able to recognise and know how to report a hate crime, reporting anonymously and on another person’s behalf. It will also cover in general how you can access the police and our services.
Tinnitus and Stress 1.00pm - 2.00pm
An overview of how physical and mental stress impacts on the awareness of tinnitus and discussion of some management techniques including mindfulness and CBT
OXSIGHT 2.15pm - 3.15pm
We are a new digital health company, focusing on empowering individuals with sight loss to remain independent. The OXSIGHT glasses are currently on the market for those who suffer with tunnel vision as an effect of conditions such as Glaucoma, Diabetes and other degenerative eye diseases.
Deaf Awareness Session / Basic Sign Language Workshop Run by Mary Harris 10.30am - 11.30am
This session will introduce attendees to the basics of British Sign Language where you will learn how to introduce yourself to a deaf person and understand what it’s like to be a deaf person in a hearing world. The session will be delivered by a native deaf BSL user with the support of a BSL/English interpreter.
The Care Act (2014) and Deafblind Assessments – Five years on! Run by Christine Hardy 11.45am – 12.45pm
The Care Act (2014) came into force in April 2015, outlining clear rights for people who are deafblind in particular for specialist assessments, and their potential outcomes. Five years later we pose the question of what has been the impact for this group? We will use new research to discuss if the law is being met, If people are aware of their rights and how can we increase awareness. .
Boccia Taster Sessions – Run by Shropshire Disability Network 1.00pm – 3.30pm
Never heard of Boccia before? Fancy having a go? Boccia is currently the fastest growing Paralympian sport and is one of the most accessible games in the world. Try your hand, try your foot, pop in and give it a go! In 2020 we will be back for our best boccia tournament yet!
